Malaysia Tourism to Grow over 9% According to New Market Insight

According to the report “Malaysian Tourism Industry Forecast to 2012” available at www.reportbuyer.com/go/RCS00627 various initiatives taken by the government and the tourism board of Malaysia are increasing the tourist inflow in the country. Even in an environment of global financial crisis when tourism industries across the world have shown a downtrend, the number of international tourist arrivals to Malaysia rose

5% in 2008 over the previous year (2007) and is predicted to grow 9% to 2012.

The upward trend in the number of tourist arrivals to Malaysia in the past year is credited to various aggressive marketing campaigns by the Tourism Malaysia that have been aimed at promoting tourism within Malaysia and overseas. The Tourism Malaysia has been promoting the country through a campaign called “Malaysia Truly Asia” and other promotional campaigns have been engineered both locally and overseas to attract tourists from around the world. Despite economic slowdown, Malaysia is expected to receive over 22 Million tourists this year due to strong promotional activities.

The report finds that Malaysia is becoming a popular destination for MICE visitors (meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions). It is expected that MICE visitors will account for around 8% of the total tourist arrivals in 2012 from around 5% of the total visitors in 2008 on the back of large availability of international standard infrastructure. Apart from MICE, growth in the medical tourism industry will also give thrust to the Malaysian tourism industry.
